Dr. J. Selvaraj, Associate Professor, Centre of Molecular Medicine and Diagnostics (COMManD), has delivered an invited Lecture on "Molecular approach to identify the effect of beta-sitosterol on insulin and inflammatory signaling molecules in adipose tissue of high fat diet and sucrose induced type-2 diabetic rats" in the International conference on Innovations and Applications in Biomedical and Health Sciences held during 23rd to 25th January 2023 at Holycross College Tiruchirappalli.

Scientific Lecture on "Innovation in transformation of waste to value added products"

Centre of Molecular Medicine and Diagnostics (COMManD), Department of Biochemistry has organised a Scientific Lecture on Innovation entitled “Development of value added products from waste and its market potential” on 24.01.2023. The lecture was delivered by Dr. R. Sathya, Scientist, Department of Leather Process Technology, CSIR-Central Leather Research Institute, Adyar, Chennai-600020. 30 active participants attended the lecture including under-graduate, post-graduate, research scholars and faculties as well attended the lecture. The lecture was very much useful and gave a better understanding the process of converting the waste into value added product. She explained the various value added product developed from the tannery waste. She also discussed about the national and international funding opportunities available for students, research scholars and faculties.. The students and faculties was very actively interacted with the speaker.

The webinar was very much useful and gave a better understanding on the applications of focused ultrasound Therapy. He also gave a clear explanation on how FUS works and the principle behind its working.

International Webinar on "Targeting Stem Cells as a Novel Therapeutic Targets for Colorectal Cancer Treatment"

Centre of Molecular Medicines and Diagnostics (COMManD), Department of Biochemistry has organised an International webinar on 12.01.2023 entitled “Targeting Stem Cells as a Novel Therapeutic Targets for Colorectal Cancer Treatment”. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Nityanand Srivastava, The Department of Cell Biology, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, New York. 95 active participants attended the Webinar including under-graduate, post-graduate, research scholars and faculties as well attended the webinar. The webinar was very much useful and gave a better understanding on stem cells and how it is being used for the treatment of colon cancer with experimental evidences towards the clinical applications. The presentation was very attractive and lively, drawing listener’s attention. The speaker explained all the facts behind age related molecular changes.  All the participants interacted with the speaker enthusiastically and got their doubts clarified.

Centre of Molecular Medicines and Diagnostics (COMManD), Department of Biochemistry has organized an international webinar on 05.1.2023 entitled “Exosome Biomarker – Integrating Machine Learning and Biosensing”. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Abhimanyu Thakur, M.Pharm, Ph.D. Postdoctoral Fellow, Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering, Ben May Department for Cancer Research, University of Chicago, Illinois, USA. 68 active participants attended the Webinar including under-graduate, post-graduate, research scholars and faculties as well attended the webinar. The webinar was very much useful and gave a better understanding on Exosome biomarkers and biosensing. He started his speech by explaining various neurodegenerative diseases and cancer conditions. He gave a brief explanation on different hallmarks of cancer and tumor micro environment. He explained on various exosomes involved in gliomas pathology. Next, he explained various biosensing methods in tracking the exosomes in gliomas. He explained the working of LSPR with a schematic representation. His webinar gave an idea on the importance of exosomes in liquid biopsy and development of potential diagnostic methods to keep track on disease progression. All the participants interacted with the speaker enthusiastically and got their doubts clarified.

One-day workshop on “Clinical Applications of Flow Cytometry”

Dr. Ullas Mony, Professor, Centre of Molecular Medicine and Diagnostics (COMManD) has organized a one-day workshop for the Postgraduates in Medicine on "Clinical Applications of Flow Cytometry" was held at Watson & Crick Auditorium, Centre of Molecular Medicine and Diagnostics (COMManD), SDC on 10th December, 2022. This basic workshop covered the theory of Flow Cytometry and confirmed the information intensively with the most frequent assays in both clinical settings and biomedical research.

Centre of Molecular Medicine and Diagnostics (COMManD), Department of Biochemistry has conducted a webinar on 28.11.2022 entitled “International webinar on Health and Happiness”. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Meher Rizvi, M.B.B.S, M.D, Ph. D. Associate professor, Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Sultan Qaboos University, Muscat, Oman. 25 active participants attended the Webinar including under-graduate, post-graduate, research scholars and faculties as well attended the webinar. The webinar was very much useful and gave a better understanding on how happiness plays a role in maintaining an individual’s health. The speaker clearly explained how being happy, grateful, generous has a positive impact on life and improving the gut micro biota. The speaker had a more interactive way of webinar which included activities making the webinar livelier. The speaker also shared several quotes, facts and tips for leading a stress free, happy life. She explained on how one should be grateful about oneself. She also shared the thoughts of generosity with examples like “Coffee on the wall”, “The dervish dance”. All the participants interacted with the speaker and participated in the activities conducted.

International Webinar on “Computational Drug Hacking”

Our Department conducted an international webinar on 26.11.2022 entitled “Computational drug hacking”. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Diya Rajasekhar Chinta, Associate professor, Department of Pharmacology, Manipal University College Malaysia Melaka, Malaysia. 97 participants were registered and attended, and the webinar was very much useful to the undergraduate, postgraduate, as well as to faculty members. Participants understood the basics of computational biology. The speaker explained bioinformatics, especially docking, ligand, and protein interaction. He has also given an interpretation of the ligand-protein interaction and the formation of hydrophobic, hydrogen, and sulfur bond interaction.  All the participants interacted with the speaker enthusiastically and clarified their doubts.


Guest lecture on “Key Insights of Transcription Factor EB on Mechanism – Based Therapeutic Approaches of Alzheimer’s Disease”

Centre of Molecular Medicine, Department of Biochemistry has organized a guest lecture entitled “Key Insights of Transcription Factor EB on Mechanism – Based Therapeutic Approaches of Alzheimer’s Disease” on 28.10.2022. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Ashok Iyaswamy, Research Assistant Professor, Center for Parkinson’s Disease, School of Chinese Medicine, Hong Kong Baptist University, Hong Kong. 40 active participants attended the seminar including under-graduate, post-graduate, research scholars as well as to the faculty members attended the seminar. The lecture was very much useful and gave a better understanding on the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease. The speaker clearly explained about the Alzheimer disease, the underlying three major pathological condition leading dementia, about the dysregulation of autophagy mechanism as one of the hall mark pathway for the disease progression and the cause of death under this condition. Additionally, he also explained about his formulated compound working as both diagnostic and therapeutic agent for Alzheimer disease in detail. Dr. Ashok also guided the post-graduate student to join Ph.D. and the benefits of doing Ph.D. in Hong Kong. He also shared details on the fellowships available for doing Ph.D. in Hong Kong Universities. All the participants interacted with the speaker enthusiastically and got their doubts clarified.

Guest lecture on “Patches and scaffolds for skin regeneration and hemostasis"

The Centre of Molecular Medicine and Diagnostics (COMManD), Department of Biochemistry, has organized a guest lecture entitled “Patches and scaffolds for skin regeneration and hemostasis” on September 24, 2022, at Watson & Crick lecture hall, Department of Biochemistry delivered by Dr. G. Devanand Venkatasubbu, Assistant Professor, Department of Nanotechnology, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Kattankulathur. The program started with a welcome address given by Dr. F. Arul Prakash, Associate Professor, COMManD. Dr. Devanand shared his valuable knowledge about developing cost effective patches especially for diabetic foot ulcer. He also describe various process involved in the development of skincare products. About 35 students and faculty from various department have participated and benefitted  The session ends with a Vote of thanks given by Dr. Kavitha S, Lecturer, COMManD.

Induction Ceremony of Postgraduate Program in Molecular Medicine -2022

Centre of Molecular Medicine and Diagnostics (COMMAND) has introduced a postgraduate program in Molecular Medicine, the only one of its kind in Tamil Nadu by 2021. The induction ceremony for the second batch was held on September 22, 2022. The Chief Guest of the program, Dr. Suresh Kumar Rayala, Chairman GATE/JAM and Professor, Department of Biotechnology, IIT Madras inaugurated the postgraduate program

National Webinar on “Coral Reef Ecosystem – Climatic Threats and Conservative Efforts”

The Centre of Molecular Medicine and Diagnostics (COMManD), Department of Biochemistry, has organized a National Webinar entitled “Coral Reef Ecosystem – Climatic Threats and Conservative Efforts” on July 30, 2022. Dr. Tinesh Thangadurai, CSIR Pool Scientist, Indian Institute of Science. Bangalore shared his valuable knowledge and research experience in marine ecosystems, specifically the role of coral in climatic change, and explained the importance of its preservation. About 150 participants registered for the webinar from various institutions and attended the session.
