Dr. Dr. Vishnu Priya, Professor of Department of Biochemistry has delivered a guest lecture on the topic "Women empowerment: Need of the hour" in International Women’s Day 2024 “Series of talks reaching beyond the limits: Voice of the others” held on 2nd to 7th March, 2024 organized by Faculty of Engineering and Technology, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram.

Innovative Approaches in Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation for the Treatment of Congenital Disorders

Centre of Molecular Medicine and Diagnostics (COMManD), Department of Biochemistry has organized Scientific Lecture on “Innovative Approaches in Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation for the Treatment of Congenital Disorders” held on 20.02.2024. Dr. Karthikeyan Kandasamy, Senior Research Fellow, Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore. About 22 faculties and 16 students from different institutes has attended the lecture. The lecture was very much useful and gave a better understanding on the recent development in Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation and tissue engineering approaches that occupies a major role in the field of health care system. The session provides deep insights on the technology’s improvement and its uses in various field including healthcare. The participants visit our research facilities and interact with our research faculties.  The faculties were provided their feedback and suggested to conduct similar programs in future.

One day workshop on “Basics of Flow Cytometry"

Centre of Molecular Medicine and Diagnostics (COMManD) organised a one day workshop on “Basics of Flow Cytometry” on 10th January, 2024. Professor Ullas Mony was the resource person and he organised the workshop. This workshop covered the theory of Flow Cytometry and confirm this information intensively with the most frequent assays in both research and clinical settings. Motivated Doctorate, Masters and Undergraduate students in life sciences attended this workshop.

Innovation in Piezoelectric Sensors for Skin Healthcare & Monitoring & Biomedical Uses

Centre of Molecular Medicine and Diagnostics (COMManD), Department of Biochemistry has organized a Scientific Lecture on “Innovation in Piezoelectric Sensors for Skin Healthcare & Monitoring & Biomedical Uses” held on 05-01-2024. Dr. Ragu Sasikumar, Research Professor, Korea University of Technology, & Education, Cheonan-Si, South Korea, has delivered the lecture . 30 active participants attended the lecture including post-graduate, research scholars and faculties. The lecture was very much useful and gave a better understanding on developing start-up ideas in the field of health care system. The lecture opened up on the technologies developed with start-up ideas, their innovation and uniqueness. Moreover Dr. Ragu Sasikumar had an interactive session where the participants shared their views on start-up ideas, novel research, and innovative thinking about the health care systems. He also discussed how various foreign agencies provide support system in establishing our idea and marketing it. He also discussed his experiences on how he came up with start-up ideas and the hardships he faced when pursuing his dreams. The students and faculties were very actively interacted with the speaker.

Faculty Development Program on "Innovations in Molecular Techniques and Tissue Engineering Process"

Centre of Molecular Medicine and Diagnostics (COMManD), Department of Biochemistry has organized a Faculty Development Program on “INNOVATION IN MOLECULAR TECHNIQUES AND TISSUE ENGINEERING PROCESS” held on 15.09.2023. Dr. Ananthi Sivagnanam, Founder & CEO, ClinBiocare Technology has delivered a lecture on the topic “Advanced Molecular Techniques for Cancer Biology Studies”. Dr. Rajalakshmanan Eswaramoorthy, Professor, Centre of Molecular Medicine and Diagnostics (COMManD), Department of Biochemistry, Saveetha Dental College has delivered a lecture entitled “Recent advances of musculoskeletal regeneration”. About 25 faculties from various institute has attended the lecture. The lecture was very much useful and gave a better understanding on the recent development in diagnostics and tissue engineering methods that occupies a major role in the field of health care system.

Centre of Molecular Medicine and Diagnostics (COMManD), Department of Biochemistry has organized a Scientific Lecture on “INNOVATION IN DISRUPTIVE TECHNOLOGIES FOR HEALTH CARE” held on 02.09.2023. Dr. T. M. Sridhar, Vice president – Society for Biomaterials & Artificial Organs (SBAOI) India, Assistant professor, Department of Analytical Chemistry, University of Madras, Guindy, Chennai – 600025. has delivered a lecture on the topic “Innovation in disruptive technologies for health care”. 105 active participants attended the lecture including under-graduate, post-graduate, research scholars and faculties. The lecture was very much useful and gave a better understanding on how the artificial intelligence is developing in the field of health care system. The lecture opened up on the technologies improvement and its uses in various field including healthcare. Moreover Dr. Sridhar showed the recent development in the dentistry field how technologies have being developed to treat patients in a more efficient manner. He also showed few videos on the new technologies that are developed and being developed such as the rolling laptop, haloglass, google glass, sensors and many more. He then also enlisted the applications of graphene in various fields and in healthcare system. The students and faculties were very actively interacted with the speaker.

Hands on Training on - Advanced Molecular Techniques and Flow cytometry Applications in Research

Department of Biochemistry, Centre of Molecular Medicine and Diagnosis (COMManD), Saveetha Dental college and Hospitals conducted three day national level workshop on “Advanced Molecular Techniques and Flow cytometry Applications in Research” from (23/08/2023 – 25/08/2023). This workshop was conducted under the guidance of Dr. J Selvaraj and Dr. Ullas Mony and demonstrators Kalai selvi K, Sathanraj N, Bhuvaneswari P and Swetha P, at Saveetha dental college and Hospitals. A total of 14 participants enthusiastically registered for the workshop. On the first day (23/08/2023), an inauguration ceremony was conducted in the Watson and Crick hall at 9:00 AM and all the participants were distributed with workshop kit. Followed by inauguration, Dr. J Selvaraj delivered a lecture on “Western Blotting and its Applications” to the participants. Later the participants were given hands - on training in protein separation from fresh tissue, quantification of the isolated protein, protein sample preparation, SDS – PAGE gel casting, loading of the prepared samples and staining of the gel for protein visualization. On day two (24/08/2023), the student were guided to perform blotting analysis. All the students actively participated in preparing the PAGE gel and setting up the Western blot cassette. After the western blot run, the participants blocked the membrane followed by washing and incubation with specific antibody. They then visualized the protein bands in the membrane. On the third day of workshop (25/08/2023), in the forenoon session Dr. Ullas Mony gave an in-depth lecture on flow cytometry – principles, working, data interpretation and its applications. In the afternoon session he gave a demo on flowcytometry working and data interpretation. Then by 3:00 PM a valedictory function was conducted in the department of biochemistry by Dr. Vishnupriya and all the participant were distributed with participation certificate. All the participants were provided with tea & snacks and lunch during all the three days of workshop.

Scientific Lecture on “Infrastructure, Industrialization, Innovation- Healthcare and Education Ecosystem Readiness in India”

Centre of Molecular Medicine and Diagnostics (COMManD), Department of Biochemistry has organised a Scientific Lecture on “Infrastructure, Industrialization, Innovation- Healthcare and Education Ecosystem Readiness in India” held on 05.04.2023. Dr. P. Chithra Lekha, Senior Research Scientist and Coordinator of Healthcare Division, Virginia Tech Centre for Advanced Research and Education, IITM Research Park, Chennai has delivered a lecture on the theme “Innovation in Healthcare Technologies and Education”. 36 active participants attended the lecture including under-graduate, post-graduate, research scholars and faculties as well attended the lecture. The lecture was very much useful and gave a better understanding the process of converting the idea into product. She explained the how to convert an idea into product through the valuable suggestions from end-users. She also discussed about the national and international funding opportunities available for product development and Start-ups. The students and faculties were very actively interacted with the speaker.

Centre of Molecular Medicine and Diagnostics (COMManD), Department of Biochemistry has organized a webinar titled "How to crack fellowship exams after PG program" for all students pursuing the PG program held on March 27, 2023. Dr. B. Kaleeswaran, Assistant Professor, A.V.V.M Sri Pushpam College, Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, delivered the lecture as Guest Speaker. This webinar throws light into various fellowships for Ph.D. programs after completing the PG program and various opportunities.
