Department of Biochemistry, Centre of Molecular Medicine and Diagnosis (COMManD), Saveetha Dental college and Hospitals conducted three day national level workshop on “Advanced Molecular Techniques and Flow cytometry Applications in Research” from (23/08/2023 – 25/08/2023). This workshop was conducted under the guidance of Dr. J Selvaraj and Dr. Ullas Mony and demonstrators Kalai selvi K, Sathanraj N, Bhuvaneswari P and Swetha P, at Saveetha dental college and Hospitals. A total of 14 participants enthusiastically registered for the workshop. On the first day (23/08/2023), an inauguration ceremony was conducted in the Watson and Crick hall at 9:00 AM and all the participants were distributed with workshop kit. Followed by inauguration, Dr. J Selvaraj delivered a lecture on “Western Blotting and its Applications” to the participants. Later the participants were given hands - on training in protein separation from fresh tissue, quantification of the isolated protein, protein sample preparation, SDS – PAGE gel casting, loading of the prepared samples and staining of the gel for protein visualization. On day two (24/08/2023), the student were guided to perform blotting analysis. All the students actively participated in preparing the PAGE gel and setting up the Western blot cassette. After the western blot run, the participants blocked the membrane followed by washing and incubation with specific antibody. They then visualized the protein bands in the membrane. On the third day of workshop (25/08/2023), in the forenoon session Dr. Ullas Mony gave an in-depth lecture on flow cytometry – principles, working, data interpretation and its applications. In the afternoon session he gave a demo on flowcytometry working and data interpretation. Then by 3:00 PM a valedictory function was conducted in the department of biochemistry by Dr. Vishnupriya and all the participant were distributed with participation certificate. All the participants were provided with tea & snacks and lunch during all the three days of workshop.
